How scanning works
The scanner uses your device's camera (with your permission) or an image you upload, and decodes the QR code directly in your browser, in JavaScript. No video frame or uploaded image is ever transmitted off your device.
Tips for a faster scan
Keep the QR code well framed and well lit, avoiding glare on the image. Move the camera closer or farther until the code fills a good part of the frame — very small or distant QR codes need more focus from the camera to be read.
Scanning QR codes from a saved image
If you already have a photo or screenshot with a QR code, use the "From an image" tab instead of the camera. This is handy for codes received by email, messaging apps, or in PDFs exported as images.
Frequently asked questions
Is the camera video or uploaded image sent to a server?
No. All scanning happens locally, in your browser. Neither the camera video nor the uploaded image ever leaves your device.
Why isn't the camera button working?
Camera access requires a secure connection (HTTPS) and permission granted by your browser. Check that you allowed camera access when prompted, and that you're using an up-to-date browser.
Can I scan a QR code from a saved photo?
Yes. Use the "From an image" option and upload the photo file. The QR code is decoded directly in your browser, no live camera required.
Does the scanner work with any type of QR code?
Yes, as long as the code is readable in the image or video (good lighting, focus, and framing). The decoded content is shown as text, and links are automatically recognized.
