Why character limits matter
Many platforms and formats impose character limits, whether for technical reasons (SMS), interface design (Tweet/X, YouTube title), or SEO best practices (meta description, page title). Going over the limit can truncate your text, hurt how it displays, or simply block submission.
Limits used in this tool
Tweet/X: 280 characters. SMS: 160 characters per segment (longer messages are split into multiple segments). Meta description: around 160 characters, a common reference to avoid truncation in search results. SEO title: around 60 characters. Instagram: 150 characters for bio, up to 2200 for captions. YouTube: up to 100 characters for video titles. LinkedIn: up to 3000 characters per post. Facebook: up to 63206 characters per post.
These values reflect the most common limits at the moment, but platforms change their rules over time — use "Custom" if you need a specific, up-to-date limit.
Breakdown by character type
Beyond the total, the tool splits how many characters are letters, digits, spaces, and "other" (punctuation, symbols, and emojis), useful for reviewing a text's composition beyond a simple count.
