The difference in days is calculated by counting every calendar day between the start date and the end date. The breakdown into years, months, and days automatically adjusts for months with varying day counts and leap years, so the result is always exact.
Why counting business days is useful
Many legal, commercial, and shipping deadlines are measured in business days rather than calendar days. A "10 business days" deadline to respond to a legal proceeding, for example, is significantly longer in total calendar days than 10 consecutive days because Saturdays and Sundays are excluded from the count.
An important limitation
This calculator counts any day from Monday through Friday as a business day, without deducting national, state, or municipal holidays, which vary significantly by location and year.
